MFA-Costume Design for Theatre

Comprehensive professional degree, providing high level training and experience researching, collaborating, designing, and producing theatre, opera, and dance costumes.

          BFA – Painting

Included extensive courses in design, figure drawing and sculpture, printmaking, and drafting.  Also studied anatomy, physiology, chemistry, biology, neurology, philosophy and business.

  • Tucson Academy of Art, Tucson AZ-Gabor Svagrik, plein air painting workshop and practice.
  • Italy – practice and instruction with Timothy Tyler, Como and Tuscany regions, 2 plein air painting workshops.
  • Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Joe Sweeney, 3 plein air painting workshops.



  • Designed costumes for opera, theatre and dance, including Man of La Mancha, Three Sisters, Picnic, Bent, Alice in Wonderland, Great Expectations, University of Illinois dance concert, The Pennsylvania Dance Theatre Fire Remembers and The Raven, as well as individual design and production of theatrical pieces, wedding gowns and skating costumes.
  • Taught a variety of costume design and technology courses at University of Illinois, Juniata College, and the Penn State School of Theatre.
  • Served as craftsperson, milliner, painter/dyer, and hair/makeup for Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Hartford Stage, Hope Summer Repertory theatre, University of Illinois, and Pennsylvania Centre Stage.
  • Served as cutter/draper and tailor for University of Illinois, Northern Illinois University, and Pennsylvania Centre Stage.

PAINTING (1999-present)

  • Currently own and operate a self-supporting business selling my own artwork.
  • Taught painting and drawing, public classes and private lessons 5-12 hours per week.
  • Participated in numerous art competitions and won awards, including Best of Pennsylvania Artists, Art of the State in Harrisburg, PA, Scapes and Scrapes at the Allegheny Museum of Art curated by Joe Sweeney, the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts Town and Gown Award, and a purchase prize with a piece on permanent display at the Knight Foundation headquarters, representing our region.
  • Participated in group shows and held on average 4 solo shows/year of my paintings and drawings.
  • Traveled extensively to create a body of work promoting US state and National Parks.
  • Created two films about my work as an artist and associated environmentalist contributions, in cooperation with Dennis Hagerman.


  • Developed a painting series to support and facilitate the management and conservation of our local streams and watershed, by annually creating a large work of art to commemorate and raise funds for Clearwater Conservancy.
  • Education Coordinator and board member, Art Alliance of Central PA- Attracted and established a younger membership, increased the number and breadth of subjects being taught, and increased the number of students taking classes.
  • Donated large paintings to Easter Seals and the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania, to raise funds for their respective public services.


  • Currently developing a series of large and small scale abstract photographic metallic prints, and continuing to show these works at a modern art gallery.
  • Building a body of work which documents the current state of Pennsylvania natural areas, especially in the Centre region, as a source of renewal, recreation, and sustenance for its population.
  • Traveling and developing work which expresses the importance of maintaining wild and preserved areas in the United States, with an interest in promoting intelligent management of natural resources, and improved support of state and National Parks.
  • Working with an artist consultant in southern California to establish United States west coast gallery representation and global online representation.
