Mixed Media Works on Paper
In this series, Jennifer took elements from her contemporary landscape paintings, broke them out of their mold, and remodeled them with simplification and distortion. Texture, mark making, and decisive use of color are all drawn upon to express nature themes. Each background is an expression of a single landscape element: a leaf, a blossom, the earth, a tree. A light-reflecting gilded area is patinated with lyrical lines and splashes, allowing the color to show within and around its regular, straight edge form. These works evolve over time, taking about one year to fully develop a halo around the etched areas of gilding. The combined effects of these paintings refer to the tempests, fast and slow, of nature changing and evolving over just a few generations of human life.
